What is gait analysis?
Gait analysis is a system where we analyse the motion of your feet to make sure you get the correct footwear. This will involve using a video camera & treadmill and/or having a staff member observe and analyse your running style. The process takes around 30 minutes to complete.
How much is gait analysis and do I need to book?
The service is free and no appointment is needed, however, we strive to provide ground breaking customer service at all times, therefore we ask customers to be patient if using the store at the weekend and lunch time periods.
What should I wear for a gait analysis?
Suitable running clothing should be worn. Shorts are preferable so that we are able to see the back of your knees. Female customers are also advised to wear a sports bra. It also helps us if you can bring your existing running shoes.
How can it help me?
Gait analysis ensures you get the right shoes for your running style to help avoid aches, pains and injuries.
How long do I have to run for?
Long enough for us to get the most accurate reading possible. However, you choose the pace, so is suitable for all fitness levels.
Sweatshop works in partnership with Footbalance to provide a unique service to our customers. Footbalance is a bespoke customised insole.
What are the benefits?
We have the ability to take any ‘off the shelf’ generic shoe and mould insoles to the shape of each foot. These customised insoles provide a greater fit and comfort for your footwear.
An additional benefit is that they can be taken out and used in everyday footwear. Someone who spends a lot of time on their feet like a nurse, policeman or retail worker can really benefit from the insoles which make the shoe more comfortable.
Remember, the more comfortable you are, the more you are likely to enjoy your running experience!
What is it NOT?
The insoles are not an orthotic and will not be offered as an alternative or compared to as one. The customised insoles are purely to enhance the fit and comfort of a shoe.
The insoles do not provide a rigid support in a shoe - you will see this when you try it for yourself. You will see they are very flexible and soft hence provide comfort for someone using them. They do however provide a natural support by enhancing the natural shape of the foot more than generic insoles.
Our staff will take you through a thorough assessment to be able to identify and recommend some suitable trainers for you to try. The first part of the technical process will involve moulding you an insole to the shape of each of your feet. We want every customer to have the opportunity to feel the benefits and try them out. You are under no obligation to buy the insoles but we always allow you to try them and feel the benefits.
If at the end of the process you choose not to purchase them, as with any products we offer a customer, it is entirely your decision. If you do wish to buy them, the insoles have 30 day guarantee, like we offer on footwear.
Sports Bra Fitting
We offer a free, specialist sports bra fitting service carried out by trained staff members.
Our staff are trained by Dr Joanne Scurr from the University of Portsmouth’s Department of Sport and Exercise Science. Dr Scurr is a world-leading researcher in the biomechanics of breast movement. She delivers gender-specific courses to teach out staff about breast anatomy, the importance of breast support and the key components of a good sports bra.
As best-fit advisers, out male members of staff can offer you advice on how to find the perfect sports bra for you. Our female staff are trained bra-fitters and can fit you in your perfect bra according to our ‘best-fit guide’, developed in conjunction with Dr Scurr.
As we go through the fitting process with our customers we teach them the best-fit principles so that they are able to make informed decisions when trying on and purchasing their sports bras. Because we are so committed to helping you find the right sports bra our stores have ‘bra bars’ – a focussed area which offers a wide selection of bra styles.
